Singing Singers

Here’s my 403A that Heather gave me installed in the cabinet I bought this weekend.  I’m selling the machine on the left (a 1960’s 600e Touch and Sew), on Craigslist if anyone is interested.

Looks good, right? The lever sticking out underneath is a “knee lift.” Basically you drop the foot pedal in a slot and when you push against the lever with your knee, it operates the machine. Pretty sweet.

AND — you have to see this — here’s the original ad for Singer Cabinets. My cabinet is the Copenhagen model.

  1. That looks great! I’m pretty sure if I remember correctly Mom had the “knee lift” on her machine too.

I’ve just completed re-finishing my Singer Copenhagen Cabinet. I need to replace some of the hardware so I can install my Singer 403. Any ideas where I can buy replacement hardware?

    • Hi Courtney, I think your best bet would be eBay, you can also try Etsy, and I have occasionally seen hardware on Sew Classic’s Website, if you want to check there.

Another resource is Sewitsforsale, a Yahoo group where you can post items that you are seeking. Yet another resource is the Vintage Singers group on Yahoo. If you just need the brackets I bet you will be able to find them on eBay or ask the people at the Vintage Singers group.

I hope this helps, and I’d love to see your completed project when finished.
      Nan
